Default Fruits

Hmm .. I was just wondering if it's bad to have too much fruit in your diet? I'm a big fruitetarian and I can't go a day without eating lots and lots of it. Is all that fructose sugar bad? I mean I know the fruit is a better choice than cookies or cake, but fruit sugar is sugar. (O, I'm not really a fruitetarian .. haha that'd be funny; I just felt like making up a word to express my everlasting love for fruit). I sound like a crazy person .. WEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I dont' know about all that sugar stuff but pat yourself in the back for not being a choco-holic or a person who snacks and craves on candy or other sweets. If you are going to be addicted to food then fruit is a good choice. I know it would be horrible if you became diabetic--I wonder if anyone else has more knowledge on this subject?

Good question!!!! If you are concerned about carbohydrates: fruit, bread, sugar , potatoes are all carbs and the body processes them much the same way. in theory fruit is a complex carb and digests more slowly because the complex carbs break down from complex carbs into simple sugars before theyare digested. [ My opinion and the truth for me:: In actuality I will never believe this completely because I have hypoglycemia and I react no differently to a piece of candy or an apple. If I eat either alone (without some protein), I will be dizzy, lightheaded, shaky, and irritable in less than an hour.

if you don't have hypoglycemia and don't need to limit carbs-- You may not need to limit fruit--fruit is better than sugar and white flour because you get fiber and many vitamins and nutrients from the fruit which the body needs. If you are on a carb restricted diet , i.e. for diabetes, fruit juices are usually eliminated because they digest immediately aand fruits would be limited to 2 or 3 a day-the fiber in the fruit slow digestion somewhat

For me __and I know this is not true for many of you__ I do not lose weight on anything but a quite restricted carbohydrate diet, including complex carbs. I do best on high protein. I risk getting clobbered for my opinions which some of you disagree with. What is fact for me because I have a screwed up body metabolism, will appear to be merely my opinion. I own it. It's mine. I've been around long enough that I assume you know I am not trying to cause dissention--just to present another way of viewing the situation

I think most diet programmes suggest limiting fruit to between 3 and 5 serves daily. I eat a lot less than that, possibly 1 or 2, but from choice. I try to steer clear of tropical fruits as they are the high GI choices. But there is a heap of micronutrients in fruit not to mention fibre, so you are most likely doing yourself good by eating fruit, as long as you don't go overboard.

Let's not forget about the nutritional benefits of fruit. Our cells metablolize food more efficiently when eating a nutrient rich diet and that's why fruit can actually aid in our efforts to lose fat. And Carole is correct. Fruit is a complex carbohydrate. Too much of anything is not recommended, however. I would try and at least substitute a vegetable or whole grain snack or a lean protein for one of your fruit servings. Also, make sure you're eating "fresh" fruit, not canned or a lot of fruit juices. Lastly, try eating most of your fruit servings earlier in the day. Otherwise, I say knock yourself out on the fruit.

Fruits have calories too so you can't gulp down all the fruits you want just because they are said to be healthy. They make you grow fat too.
