Im a 27 year old male and normally i weigh 140lbs and for the last year ive stayed like that, in the last 2 weeks ive put on around 4lbs, i have started lifting weights but im not going over my usual calorie intake. So is it possible this could be muscle? or am i putting on fat?
My usual diet consists of : Shredded wheat or some type of cereal with semi skimmed milk usually 2 bananas a day 3 apples A tuna fish and Salad cream sandwich Possibly a cereal bar A low fat yoghurt Pasta with low fat sauce or Chicken breasts and vegetables A handful of nuts (Brazil, almonds, walnut etc) I also play Soccer reguarly and stay away from fat foods with lost of saturated fat in them. Just don't understand why ive suddenly put on weight! Is it possible to build muscle without having to eat lots and lots of protein? and over do your calorie intake? |

You can feasably gain 4 lbs in a day of just water, but some of it is probably muscle if you've started lifting. You don't need "lots and lots" of protein to gain muscle. Just sufficient protein in addition to weight training will get you muscle gain and based on what you listed, you're getting plenty of protein. Don't sweat it - 4 pounds isn't musch to ve concerned about- but just keep an eye on weight gain and maybe get yourself a body composition test so you'll know whether any weight gain or loss is fat or muscle.
