Default The Old Fashioned USDA Food Pyramid

I wonder what you all think of the old fashioned USDA Food Pyramid. I realize it may not work for everybody in every situation, especially people with health problems. However, for those who are fairly healthy this diet works pretty well. I can attest to that.

At times when I actually followed the old fashioned food pyramid diet of four fruits and/or vegetables a day it consisted of the following: 3 servings of dairy, 2-3 servings of meat a day, 4 servings of carbohydrates a day, 4-5 fruits and/or vegetables a day, and teeny tiny amounts of fats in a day.

This actual pyramid varies for everyone, and the amounts of servings have to be proportioned properly. Furthermore, the servings that people would take in per day depend on the amount of calories per day. The USDA Food Pyramid website has a great resource for developing your own personalized food pyramid. Mayo Clinic.com has a great example of the food Pyramid as well.

I was able to maintain the same weight for over 8 years that way. I have to admit, when I turned 30 years old two years ago this feat had become quite a bit harder. However, I think its because I have not been exercising properly.

Like you said yourself. It's old fashioned and not adapted to today's needs. We should really update that food pyramid.

This seems to be quite interesting, but how do I know that I'm having the proper serving, how do you measure a serving, use a cup or something?
