Q5. I WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT FAST - SHOULD I USE DIET SUPPLEMENTS?

Not if you want to keep the weight off.

I'm not aware of a single study which proves that diet supplements help people to lose weight and keep it off.

However, I have personal experience of dozens and dozens of women whotook pills to lose weight and ended up WRECKED - and fatter than ever.

But don't take my word for it - ask your doctor. He/she will tell youexactly the same.

Let's be honest - how does eating a pill help to improve our eating habits, our cooking habits, our shopping habits or our exercise habits?

Q6. WHAT'S A QUICK WAY TO ESTIMATE MY DAILY CALORIE NEEDS TO LOSE WEIGHT?

IN POUNDS

- If moderately active, multiply your current weight in pounds by 15.
- If typically inactive, multiply your current weight in pounds by 13.
- Subtract 500 calories from the total to lose 1 pound per week.
- Subtract 1000 calories to lose 2 pounds per week.

EXAMPLE

Angela weighs 240 pounds and leads a typically inactive life.
Her ball-park daily calorie needs are 240 x 13 = 3120 calories.
This is the total number of calories she needs in order to MAINTAIN her current weight.

To lose 2 pounds a week, Angela needs to eat:
3120 minus 1000 = 2120 calories per day.

------------

KILOS

If moderately active, multiply weight (kg) by 22, then multiply by 1.5.
If typically inactive, multiply weight (kg) by 22, then multiply by 1.3.

EXAMPLE

Mary weighs 84 kilos and leads a moderately active life.
Her ball-park daily calorie needs are 84 x 22 = 1848 x 1.5 = 2772 calories.
This is the total number of calories she needs in order to MAINTAIN her current weight.

To lose 2 pounds a week, Mary needs to eat:
2772 minus 1000 = 1772 calories per day.

Note:

- This is a quick ball-park estimate only. Don't take it too literally.
- It is not recommended to eat less than 1200 calories per day.

6. I agree with the first and the second poster. Diet pills are not very effective and they do not help you keep the wait off. It is definitely true I think that the old-fashioned way to keep the weight off is by diet and exercise. That is also necessary to keep the weight off as well. No fried foods, very little butters, and limited amounts of sweets and candies.

It may seem like a drag at first but in the end it will be worth it. Not only that but there are so many ways to make healthy food taste good that there is not much of a reason to want to go to the bad stuff any more. I am getting encouraged by entering this forum. The only problem I have is I am lazy when it comes to exercise.
